Occupational Summary

Perform general cabinetry work including layout, repair, and assembling of cabinets/wood furniture.

Work Performed

Assist all cabinetmakers in assigned work.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Saw with stationary power tools, circular saws, and hand and portable power tools.

Use a band saw, scroll saw, and saber saw.

Use all other hand and portable power tools. Use planes and scrapers.

Knowledge of procedures for drilling and boring.

Read blue prints and work from sketches and verbal instruction.

Safely operate equipment being used.

Correctly apply different types of fasteners. Cut and assemble cabinet top or base.

Follow OSHA requirements for hazard communication and where to look.

Use the correct abrasives.

Use correct adhesives dispose of waste properly.

Use any machinery used in the cabinetry trade. Work from sketches and verbal design.

Pick out drawer glides for weight load of drawer and the uses of drawer.

Draw sketches.

Build cabinet mock-ups.

Set up and run millwork (single run). Purchase correct cabinet for jobs.

Measure and lay out cabinet components.

Sand and prepare cabinet for finish.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training:

Work requires an educational background normally acquired through a partial high school education plus a 2 year apprenticeship or training in woodwork trades.

 

Experience:

Work required and education/training background normally equivalent to a high school education with course work in skilled crafts or trades or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.

Possess a valid North Caroling driver's license.

Completed forklift training.

Completed Level 5 Cabinetmaker I program requirements and passed all requirements or have 3 years experience in cabinet making trade and able to pass required tests for Level 6 Cabinet Maker II.
