Occupational Summary

Perform specialized technical tasks in the design, construction and maintenance of complex electronic equipment and instruments to include the design and modification of circuits and the development of plans.

Work Performed

Perform specialized technical tasks in the design, construction, operation and maintenance of complex electronic equipment and experimental instruments and apparatus to include the design and modification of circuits and the development of plans.

Design and construct a wide variety of complex electronic equipment and special experimental instruments from blueprints and diagrams to include machining and fabricating of parts and assembling and finished products; fabricate special tools as required.

Perform complex and extensive repairs on malfunctioning instruments by replacement of parts, soldering connections and making adjustments by calibrations; establish and follow predetermined schedule of preventive maintenance.

Demonstrate correct techniques for operating specialized electronic equipment in laboratory situations.

Provide technical assistance, instruction and consultation to faculty and student researchers and to staff members for the resolution of special problems.

Monitor electronic equipment and technical services in assigned area.

Prepare orders for new parts and supplies; supervise receiving and issuing; maintain related records.

Make work assignments; review the work of lower level employees; assist in training of new personnel.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training:

Work requires a background in Electronics normally acquired through a two year Associate degree program in Electronics to become familiar with electronic equipment and experimental devices and apparatus common to an electronics repair facility.

 

Experience:

Four years of related experience are required in lieu of an Associate degree in Electronics.

Work requires three years related experience as an electronics technician to acquire competency in applying electronics principles.
