Occupational Summary

Perform journeyman level work associated with insulating hot and cold pipes, ducts and equipment; furnish time and material take-offs; monitor and inspect work operations and results.

Work Performed

Perform journeyman level work associated with insulating equipment such as boilers, tanks, hot or cold air ducts or pipes, and heat exchangers, including the removal and repair of defective insulating materials.

Determine type and quantity of insulating material to be used on the job in accordance with University standards.

Monitor work operations to assure compliance with prescribed specifications, quality standards, and schedule commitments. Troubleshoot problems, and perform any re-work modification or alternate application of insulation material.

Initiate requisitions for materials. Provide technical guidance and direction to lower level personnel.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training:

Work requires an educational background normally equivalent to a partial high school education plus 2 years apprenticeship or trades training in insulation.

 

Experience:

Work requires a knowledge of pipe, duct and equipment insulation techniques, methods and materials normally acquired through 2 years of insulation experience.
