Occupational Summary

Performs varied tasks of a mildly complex nature with defined responsibilities within a library setting. Exercises some independent judgment in the application of guidelines to specific library operations and services and the performance of daily activities. Requires basic knowledge of library practices and procedures. Receives detailed instructions with minimal direct supervision from a designated supervisor.

Work Performed

Performs basic tasks in the area(s) of cataloging, acquisitions, circulation, interlibrary loan, collection services, reference and stacks management.

Applies established, standard guidelines to accomplish tasks and to solve problems. Exercises some independent judgment in the application of guidelines to basic library operations and services.

Performs basic operations using the libraries' integrated library system, and/or a variety of other electronic resources and software packages

Operates standard equipment and software used in a library.

Keeps daily and monthly statistics; organizes and routes reports.

Performs office support tasks.

May supervise day to day work of students

Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training:

Required: Two years post-secondary education or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

 

Experience:

Required: Three months relevant experience; strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills; able to work independently and as a member of a team; basic proficiency using computer based technology; ability to effectively organize and prioritize daily work; demonstrated commitment to providing outstanding customer services.

Preferred: Prior experience working in an academic research library
