Occupational Summary

Perform journeyman level work in the installation, maintenance, modification, overhaul, service and repair of all types of air conditioning, refrigeration systems and equipment and all pneumatic controls.

Work Performed

Install, maintain, adjust, modify and perform major overhaul and repair of all pneumatic controls of air conditioning systems by interpreting blueprints, manufacturer specifications, written and verbal instructions.

Make initial settings and final adjustments of refrigeration and air conditioning systems and modify existing installation to obtain required results.

Troubleshoot and calibrate all pneumatic controls and reciprocating and centrifugal chillers, cooling towers, direct expansion systems, electric blast coils, immersion coils, pumps, fans, starters, electrostatic filters, laboratory ultralow temperature boxes, walk-in coolers and freezers.

Check and adjust complete air conditioning and refrigeration systems after installation.

Prepare schedule of preventive maintenance and plan major overhaul of systems. Provide technical guidance and direction to lower level personnel.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training:

Work requires an educational background normally acquired through a high school education with course work in electrical or electronics trades.

 

Experience:

Work requires a knowledge of heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems as well as building control maintenance and repair of related systems normally acquired through 4 years of experience in the maintenance and repair of refrigeration and air conditioning systems. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
