Occupational Summary

Inspect Duke University facilities to detect existing or potential accidents and health hazards and recommend corrective or preventive measures where indicated.

Work Performed

Inspect facilities to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards and recommend corrective or preventive measures where indicated.

Conduct training classes to increase proficiency in safe practices and promote safety consciousness; assist departmental personnel in implementing general safety policies and measures.

Investigate accidents and injuries and assist in the preparation of materials and evidence for use in hearings, lawsuits and insurance investigations. Assist Fire and Safety Coordinator in implementing general safety policies, procedures and measures.

Assist departments in design and use of equipment, shops and fire prevention and safety programs.

Maintain statistical data required by OSHA and applicable federal, state, local and University safety regulations.

Participate in industrial safety conferences to keep abreast of current developments in safety training techniques, methods and programs for possible application by Duke University.

Meet with community and civic organizations as requested to promote safety programs.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein. Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training:

Work requires communicative, cognitive and analytical skills normally acquired through an Associate degree in engineering, laboratory science or a related field.

 

Experience:

Work requires knowledge of safety and health hazards normally acquired through 4 years of experience in a safety related field.

OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

North Carolina Driver's License required.
