Occupational Summary

Coordinate and participate in a variety of complex duties involved in Assisted Reproduction including facilitating the resolution of andrology and embryology laboratory issues, inventory management, performance of all laboratory procedures according to established laboratory and accreditation guidelines.

Work Performed

Coordinate and participate in a variety of complex duties involved in Assisted Reproduction to include, but not limited to performing semen testing, semen processing for insemination, oocyte retrievals, oocyte insemination, embryo culture, embryo intra-uterine transfer and cryopreservation of gametes and embryos. Perform fertilization assessment and maintain cultures under controlled conditions.

Perform advance Reproductive Biology procedures including, but not limited to IVF, GIFT and ZIFT.

Monitor quality control testing to ensure reliability of testing procedures; monitor functioning and routine maintenance of laboratory equipment; prepare applicable records summarizing results and efforts to the laboratory director.

Assist in the development and implementation of testing methods, techniques and procedures for laboratory application; set up and evaluate laboratory equipment and make recommendations accordingly; standardize laboratory solutions and develop reagents used in diagnostic work.

Prepare reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions. Serve as a liaison between the laboratory and physicians and related clinic personnel.

Provide technical guidance and instruction to technicians, REI fellows, OB/GYN residents, students and other interested personnel in laboratory techniques.

Maintain inventory of materials, supplies and equipment; reorder as required. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training:

Work requires a Bachelor's degree in biology, zoology, biochemistry or other related scientific field.

 

Experience:

Work requires three years of clinical/research experience in an In Vitro Fertilization Laboratory. Certification as Technical Supervisor in Andrology and Embryology by the American Board of Bioanalysis is preferred.
