Occupational Summary

Perform a variety of duties under supervision in the recruitment and selection of student applicants for admission to Duke University.

Work Performed

Analyze qualifications of prospective students utilizing established University admissions standards, guidelines and criteria, and reviewing with supervisor; submit evaluations and recommendations to Director regarding admissibility of applicants.

Correspond with prospective students, applicants, University alumni, guidance counselors and others seeking information on admissions standards, academic and non-academic programs and student activities following established procedures and precedents.

Conduct on-campus interviews of prospective students and their parents.

Visit secondary schools, junior colleges and other educational institutions within assigned areas as appropriate based on review of historical and market data, and input from supervisor; conduct meetings with prospective students, guidance counselors and student service agencies; represent Duke University to local, state and national admissions and related organizations.

Assist in and conduct training and orientation sessions for members of Alumni Admissions Advisory Committee, guidance counselors and other officials to ensure active alumni recruitment of students and continuing secondary school, junior college and other educational institution relations following established procedures.

Assist and participate with other staff members having special project responsibilities with the coordination of activities designed to accomplish established objectives.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Education/Training:

Work generally requires a knowledge and understanding of college experience and student life obtained through the attainment of a bachelor's degree.
