Occupational Summary

Support Duke administration in the development of efficient and effective management of the Duke resources including finances, faculty & staff, productivity and compensation. Improve the administrative & managerial performance through objective review and assessment of the financial & operational performance by analyzing trends opportunities for improvement. Will act as a primary resource for ensuring that strategic initiatives have appropriate project definition, planning and implementation strategies in place.

Work Performed

Prepare ad hoc financial and operational analyses to address specific business questions or decisions.

Complete dashboard and portfolio analyses to include the development of existing financial and operating performance and the development of realistic business assumptions for pro forma financial statements, modeling of optional financial strategies for allocation of funds or expenses, and estimations of business risks for new ventures.

Develop forecasting tools and methodologies that can be deployed across the department level to better link the operating units to enterprise and departmental strategies, to better anticipate future events and to more quickly respond to changing operational and financial conditions.

Use knowledge of research, financial and functioning models, interpretation of opportunity, milestones, resource allocation plans, contingency plans and other areas that can impact strategic planning.

Provide the financial staff support to strategic projects that involve changes in funds flows, distribution approaches and reallocations of corporate resources.

Provide the analytical leadership for the development of departmental business plans.

Define project goals, create project plans and manage projects to completion.

Develop monitoring tools for departmental business plans that track the expected performance targets for key initiatives in the approved business plan.

Maintain a current functional understanding of the financial and operational analytical and reporting tools.

Prepare communication documents for analyses including complex Excel spreadsheets, Word documents, mapping software, and reports and PowerPoint presentation including embedded charts and graphs.

Exhibits outstanding collaborative and teamwork skills with diverse groups of people both internally and externally to successfully accomplish projects and overall department goals.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training:

Masters degree in business or health administration or Graduate degree in law or medicine.
