Occupational Summary

Supervise Duke's official social media accounts, content strategy and online media relations outreach, using (but not limited to) platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest. Work with students, faculty, staff, freelancers and others, as appropriate, to generate online and social media content and reach desired audiences.

Work Performed

Coordinate and lead the digital and social media presence for undergraduate admissions, including but not limited to website posts, student blogs and social media accounts.

Supervise and coordinate a digital and social media fellow position in Office of News and Communications, teams of student interns in both offices and others as appropriate.

Set standards and ensure they present stories, photographs, video and other content regularly and professionally to advance university goals.

Track and coordinate social media activities across the university, providing recommendations and leadership on using these tools effectively.

Analyze social media trends and track new technologies.

Identify and pursue opportunities for the university to syndicate social media content beyond its own platforms to reach wider audiences.

Serve as a spokesperson for Dukes digital and social media activities and project its leadership in this arena.

Provide training opportunities for faculty, students and staff.

Support university-wide online projects, live events and strategic initiatives, both in Durham and internationally.

Advise senior officials and assist with crisis communications.

Supervise and post regularly to Dukes social media site and maintain a campus-wide social media directory.

Maintain university social media guidelines and brand standards.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training:

Work requires communications, analytical and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a Bachelor's degree program.

 

Experience:

Work requires a minimum of four years direct experience managing digital and social media in a sophisticated and complex organization that has a strong external presence. Ability to both manage and create content in various formats and media.
