Occupational Summary

Lead strategic, operational, and business development activities of the Center; identify and develop strategic alliances within Duke as well as with external collaborators to adopt the Centers clinical programs; implement and oversee projects related to the development, improvement and expansion of novel clinical programs in personalized health care; secure new strategic and operational partners; identify funding; lead improvements in product development; project opportunities; provide operational direction for team members, including performance management, career progression, and professional development to expand the capabilities of the Center to current and prospective collaborators. Successful candidates will have a strong business background; business development experience and success; be creative, entrepreneurially- driven, success-oriented, and have knowledge of health care and digital health platforms to enable personalized health care. This position is located in the Center for Personalized Health Care within the Office of the Chancellor Emeritus.

Work Performed

Originate, plan, and execute business development projects to accomplish the Centers objectives of widespread implementation of its novel proactive approaches to care. Responsibilities include conception of business strategies, identification of partners (including payers, providers, and other related businesses), developing, pricing, and negotiation of projects across Duke Medicine as well as with external collaborators. Develop actionable developmental and business plans; identify strategic partners; and negotiate opportunities.

Oversee and lead product development and implementation of the current models of care. Work with clinicians, administrators, and other partners to expand and improve the clinical product lines (e.g., digital platform provider.

Responsible for leadership and oversight of the Center, including strategic and operational planning, identifying and securing project funding from relevant external and internal sources; oversight of operational activities including budget development, staff recruitment and evaluations, and policy development.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training:

Work requires business development, analytical, financial and program management skills normally acquired through the completion of a Master's degree in business administration with a health related component, clinical informatics, health care administration, or public health.

 

Experience:

At least five years of successful business development and program management experience. Strong communication and facilitation skills are required to work with corporate executives.

 

Skills:

Strategic vision, creativity, and operational excellence

Experience leading and managing a team

Working knowledge of health business development, licensing, and legal matters with external health systems and business development specific to the health care industry

Knowledge of health care reimbursement practices

Experience in health care delivery and clinical informatics and biostatistics to enable personalized, proactive, and patient driven approaches to care

Entrepreneurial interest in program to product development

Proactive and engaging personality

Requires analytical, communications and organizational skills.

Must be skilled in the areas of project management, clinical informatics, digital health, market analysis, grant writing, product development, public speaking, brand development, and strategy formulation.

Must be adaptable and an energetic self starter.
