The Strategic Advisor to the Vice Provost/Assistant Vice President is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to expand awareness of and engagement in the university's lifelong learning opportunities by alumni. The goal of this dual reporting role is to ensure a coordinated strategy that supports the Duke brand within and beyond the Duke community and encourages alumni to re-engage with Duke for their lifetime educational needs, as well as offer their expertise. This includes identifying new opportunities for growth and partnerships across Duke. As part of the Vice Provost's leadership team, the AVP will develop and support strategies to engage the alumni community in both credit and non-credit academic and professional development spaces and foster mutually beneficial partnerships between Alumni Engagement and Development (AED) and Learning Innovation and Lifetime Education (LILE) teams. As part of the AED leadership team, the AVP will oversee the creation, curation, and coordination of educational programming for the alumni and donor audience connecting them with the university to support engagement and philanthropic goals.
Serve as a strategic leader for alumni engagement in learning opportunities offered by Duke University, ensuring fit with Duke mission and adherence to relevant policies, guidelines, and regulations
Using the Activating the Global Network (AGN) Task Force report as inspiration, drive progress on priority initiatives and elevate potential pilots to stakeholders
Serve as a member of the leadership teams at AED and LILE, attending meetings and retreats, and participating in the development of strategic and operating plans
Consult with other Duke departments in the development of educational programs providing best practices and solutions
Support and oversee projects that track and record alumni engagement using tools that measure quantitative and qualitative information
Assist in the development of policies and regulations and serve in an advisory capacity to University officials
Remain active within the Duke community, providing service to University committees, boards, and task forces
Represent Duke nationally and internationally at conferences and meetings, and at Duke-sponsored programs
Plan, direct, and oversee educational programming for the AED constituency including alumni, donors, and their families in support of the partnership between LILE and AED
Lead the development and execution of high-touch/high-profile signature programs including Women's Weekend, Campaign initiatives, and other signature events in support of alumni engagement goals
Foster meaningful and mutually-beneficial partnerships collaborating with Duke schools, centers, and initiatives, with internal AED teams, and with OIT and LILE to leverage relevant technology and resources
Develop and implement strategies to expand the university's offerings in lifelong learning to meet the needs of adult learners
Tailor offerings from LILE for alumni and donor audiences in support of engagement and philanthropic efforts, and vice versa
Recruit faculty and alumni as subject matter experts to lead program development and feature in their delivery
Serve as the host of campus-based, domestic, and international programs overseeing program execution, vendor performance, and participant engagement
Oversee the assessment and evaluation of programs to ensure they meet the needs of alumni learners and achieve desired outcomes
Prepare reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions
Oversee the Lifelong Learning team at AED, and supervise team leadership to ensure alignment with team and department strategic goals and the paths toward successful outcomes are supported
Encourage and maintain collaborative efforts between AED and LILE teams
Identify and support team members' professional development and advancement taking advantage of university-sponsored and industry- related programs
Determine fiscal requirements and prepare budgetary recommendations; monitor, verify and reconcile expenditure of budgeted funds
Direct various personnel functions including, but no limited to, hiring, merit recommendations, promotions, transfers, and vacation schedules
Seek strategies to promote Duke's lifelong learning efforts to alumni and beyond collaborating with Marketing and Communications teams at LILE and AED, as well as university partners
Foster and maintain relationships with volunteers, stakeholders, and participants to support deepening and expanded connections to the university
Identify strategic opportunities to incorporate LILE programs in AED communications
Provide exceptional customer service to program participants in person and in writing.
Education/Training: | Requires a graduate degree in a related field such as education, adult learning, or higher education administration. |
Experience: | Work requires a minimum of 10 years of experience in lifelong learning or professional development, including experience in program development and management; or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience. |
