Occupational Summary

Direct, administer, and coordinate overall maintenance and engineering support of Duke University Medical Center Clinical and Research Operations, Health Systems Ambulatory Services, Davis Ambulatory Surgical Center (DASC), Duke HomeCare and Hospice (DHCH), and Duke Regional Hospital (DRH).

Work Performed

Direct,coordinate, and integrate maintenance and facility operations for Duke University Medical Center Clinical and Research Operations, Health System Ambulatory Services, DASC, DHCH, and DRH in accordance with codes, regulations, standard practices, and Duke University Medical Center/Health System objectives.

Collaborate with Facilities Design and Construction on the construction of new buildings and alterations of existing structures to ensure compliance with city, state, federal, TJC and other applicable codes and regulations.

Collaborate with operational leadership at all facilities to meet the unique needs of each organization,

Plan, direct, and coordinate the design, installation, alteration, maintenance and repair of Medical Center, Health System, DASC, DHCH, and DRH buildings, structures, equipment, utilities and support systems.

Ensure preventive maintenance programs for Medical Center, Ambulatory Health System, DASC, DHCH, and DRH equipment, facilities, and utilities comply with all applicable codes and regulations; maintain an efficient and responsive round the clock customer service response program.

Determine, evaluate, and manage fiscal requirements of the department and formulate budgetary recommendations for presentation to Senior Administration; maintain long term capital replacement program.

Assure services by vendors are performed according to all appropriate policies and regulations.

Develop and maintain a culture of continuous quality improvement by implementing Duke's hallmark guiding principles of trustworthiness, respect, diversity, learning and teamwork.

Maintain a culture of safety including ongoing educational programs and auditing for best practices.

Manage and direct a department of approximately 350 full time staff members and budget of $153M; supervise directly the Engineering and Operations leadership team to include the maintenance divisions as well as Construction, Finance, Human Resources and Information Technology related to facilities.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training:

B.S. degree in related Engineering field or equivalent

 

Experience:

Requires a minimum of 10 years of experience in complex facilities management with at least five years at the senior management level.
