Occupational Summary

Interview, evaluate and refer applicants for employment at Duke University; offer employment to applicants selected for positions.

Work Performed

Interview applicants for employment and current employees for interdepartmental transfer; evaluate personal data, educational accomplishments and occupational skills to determine applicant qualifications.

Match applicant qualifications with job specifications; refer qualified applicants to prospective employers within the University.

Maintain liaison with University departments to assist in developing job posting wording consistent with EEO guidelines, to discuss position specifications, and to expedite placement of referred applicants; explain policies and procedures regarding priority applicants including but not limited to lay off and prehire review.

Determine appropriate hire rates based on evaluation of applicants' experience and education related to the job.

Recruit employees through attendance at job fairs, career days, advertising methods, etc., to ensure an adequate pool of qualified applicants. Coordinate with departments in offering employment to ensure compliance with budgetary guidelines, established rate ranges, and applicable personnel policies.

Advise new employees of start date, job location, hours of work, and other data pertinent to the given position.

Compile data to prepare employment activity reports.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
