Occupational Summary

Direct and administer Duke University Athletic Department events, programs and related activities.

Work Performed

Direct and administer the activities of the Duke University Athletic Department which includes, but is not restricted to, analysis of personnel needs, fiscal requirements, policies and procedures, travel arrangements, schedules, ticket dispersal and serving as the University's principal representative in the field of intercollegiate athletics.

Direct and monitor arrangements for space, facilities and personnel coverage for all athletic events.

Coordinate travel, lodging and meal accommodations for athletic teams and staff; ensure the preparation of itineraries and passenger lists as specified by charters and regulatory agencies.

Interface with the administration and faculty to coordinate athletic department affairs with other University activities and to resolve problems as required.

Negotiate and monitor stadium management and concession operations.

Plan and schedule the use of athletic buildings, grounds and facilities and make necessary arrangements for maintenance and security support.

Serve as the Athletic Department's official spokesman on matters of policy, news releases, fund raising projects, capital improvements and public relations.

Recommend various personnel actions, including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisals, promotions, transfers and vacation schedules.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
