The Manager supports the mission and objectives of the Office of Audit, Risk & Compliance through highly engaged support of the Director(S) and team. The Manager also assists in performing risk assessments, client communication, engagement project planning and execution, leadership, report delivery and follow-up consultation. Valuable professional attributes include strong relationship building skills, confident communication style, appropriate assertiveness, diplomacy, and personal initiative, and the ability to facilitate collaboration across all levels of the institution.
Assist Director in performing annual risk assessment and development of work plans.
Conduct client interviews and independent research to evaluate internal controls and business process design, risk mitigation strategy, compliance with Duke policies or third-party regulations.
Perform preliminary planning and establish direction for engagements, provide leadership to assigned auditors, manage project outcomes while meeting established milestones and deadlines steering outcomes through leadership on assigned projects and teams
Supervise team and review work papers and reports for adequacy of content and reasonableness of conclusions and recommendations, provide status updates to Director/Associate Director and coordinate reviews and follow-up of questions/ concerns
Participate as an individual contributor (Plan, conduct and report) for engagements with high risk, highly complex operational or variable processes requiring more experienced skills, and/or subject matter expertise.
Coordinate management action plans in response to audit recommendations; initiate and perform follow-up and monitoring of appropriate implementation of management action plans.
Build and maintain strong client relationships through collaboration and institutional community involvement and be recognized as a solution- driven, trusted advisor.
Participate as needed in internal/external user groups/committees providing advisory support to stakeholders.
Review industry, trade and regulatory publications covering emerging risks and considerations for use in engagement/planning.
Maintain a strong client service focus by developing productive working relationships and regular communication with key client personnel.
Foster a consultative role with management and client personnel.
Participate and partner with clients on advisory groups and/or steering committees.
Coach and mentor audit team by providing clear direction and priorities, timely review and feedback on documentation and engagement progress, and facilitate effective communication throughout engagements.
Foster involvement in professional organizations to shape and influence the value of internal auditing, assurance services, compliance, data analytics and/or advisory services.
Education/Training: | Bachelor's Degree in accounting, economics, business administration, healthcare administration or related field. Advanced degree preferred. CPA, CIA, JD, MBA or similar professional credential required. |
Experience: | Work requires at least 7 years of previous audit experience with some public accounting experience preferred for financial audit teams. Experience in not-for-profit, governmental, health care, or academic medical centers desired. Understanding of applicable professional standards is required. Strong oral and written communication skills required. |
