Coordinate the planning, execution, completion, and inspection of designated construction and renovation projects involving Duke University buildings and facilities; provide technical guidance and consultation in the review of structural plans and resolve special construction problems.
Lead and monitor the execution, completion, and inspection of large- scale and special maintenance, replacement, upgrading, and renovation projects for Duke University buildings and plant facilities, including cost estimation, requisitioning specialized equipment, and ensuring project compliance.
Review and coordinate structural plans with architectural plans, specifications, and equipment for new construction and renovation projects; inspect projects during and following construction and advise as to compliance with specifications prior to University acceptance.
Serve as the primary liaison between the University community, contractors, and the Facilities Planning and Management Department to provide detailed updates on project costs, schedules, and progress.
Resolve complex construction challenges and contribute to the establishment and refinement of University standards, providing guidelines for long-term project planning, design, and construction.
Establish and oversee preventive maintenance programs for buildings, facilities, and equipment across the University to ensure optimal operation and longevity.
Collaborate extensively with Facilities Planning and Management personnel and external contractors on high-impact construction and renovation projects, providing advanced technical support.
Oversee and manage expenditure of funds, ensuring all project budgets are adhered to, and prepare detailed reports on project progress, potential risks, and recommendations for improvement.
Develop operational analyses and reports that highlight progress, identify adverse trends, and provide data-driven recommendations for project optimization.
Mentor Level 1 staff, providing guidance on technical tasks, project budgeting, and professional development.
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
Education/Training: | Work generally requires a bachelor's degree in a specific engineering field. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE |
Experience: | Work requires a minimum of five years' experience in design, planning, evaluation and project management related to new construction and renovation of buildings and/or systems. |
