Coordinate the planning, execution, completion, and inspection of designated construction and renovation projects involving Duke University buildings and facilities; provide technical guidance and consultation in the review of structural plans and resolve special construction problems.
Lead the strategic planning and oversight of large-scale and complex maintenance, replacement, upgrading, and renovation projects for Duke University buildings and facilities, including high-level cost estimation, budget management, and procurement of specialized equipment.
Provide expert review and integration of structural, architectural, and systems plans for major construction and renovation projects, ensuring alignment with University standards and objectives. Conduct comprehensive inspections throughout project phases and prior to final acceptance, ensuring full compliance with regulatory and specification requirements.
Serve as a senior liaison between University leadership, contractors, external agencies, and the Facilities Planning and Management Department, delivering detailed project updates and ensuring alignment with strategic objectives.
Address and resolve highly complex construction challenges by developing innovative solutions and contributing to the continuous improvement of University construction standards and practices for long-term strategic planning, design, and implementation.
Develop and oversee preventive maintenance strategies for buildings, facilities, and equipment across the University to ensure long-term functionality and resource optimization.
Lead collaboration between Facilities Planning and Management personnel and external contractors on mission-critical construction and renovation projects, providing senior-level guidance and support to ensure successful project delivery.
Monitor and approve expenditures, ensuring adherence to project budgets while evaluating financial risk and proposing mitigation strategies. Provide executive-level reporting on project progress, risks, and strategic recommendations for continuous improvement and risk management.
Develop project budgets and strategic plans, integrating financial planning with long-term organizational goals and resource optimization strategies.
Generate comprehensive operational analyses and executive reports highlighting progress, risks, opportunities, and strategic recommendations to senior leadership.
Mentor Level 2 and Level 1 staff, offering leadership in technical expertise, project budgeting, and strategic planning, while supporting their career growth.
Perform additional high-level duties as required, contributing to the overall strategy and operational excellence of the University's construction and facilities management.
Education/Training: | Work generally requires a bachelor's degree in a specific engineering field. Master's degree preferred. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE |
