Occupational Summary

Manages the resources of the Duke Forest to include the direction of a variety of administrative and technical activities.

Work Performed

Manages the resources of Duke Forest to include scheduling and conducting harvests to meet research, demonstration and fiscal requirements; scheduling and conducting silvicultural improvements; and maintaining roads and fire trails.

Provide information on Duke Forest through presentations and lectures in SFES labs and classes, alumni groups, and the general public as requested; assist in the development of applicable brochures and other written materials.

Provide administrative support to SFES over a variety of school functions including, but not limited to, SFES vehicle maintenance, the maintenance of drafting and equipment room, conducting labs or field trips and recruiting students.

Determine fiscal requirements for Duke Forest operations; project revenue from Duke Forest through activities such as timber sales; prepare budgetary recommendations; monitor, verify and reconcile expenditure of budgeted funds.

Prepare operational reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions.

Direct various personnel functions including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisal, promotions, transfers and vacation schedules.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
