Occupational Summary

This role embodies Duke University's commitment to fostering economic growth and opportunity across Duke University and the Duke University Health System (DUHS). Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Economic Development within Duke Community Affairs (DCA), the Director of Economic Mobility will develop and execute a comprehensive economic mobility strategy. This strategy will encompass hiring, purchasing, procurement, and more initiatives. The Director will collaborate closely with key stakeholders across Duke University and DUHS to implement this strategy, establish benchmark goals, and monitor institutional progress toward achieving these goals. Given the collaborative nature of economic mobility, the role will also engage and partner with community organizations involved in workforce and economic development initiatives.

Work Performed

Collaborate with the AVP of Economic Development and key stakeholders within Duke University to evaluate existing economic mobility practices and identify areas for improvement and innovation;

Develop a comprehensive understanding of workforce development partner capabilities in Durham, the Triangle region, and North Carolina. Collaborate with partners to enhance diverse talent pipelines into roles at DU/DUHS;

Cultivate relationships with economic development organizations that support local contractors to broaden DU/DUHS's economic mobility network;

Coordinate efforts across internal departments and external partners to ensure alignment and coherence in economic mobility strategies;

Evaluate the effectiveness of current economic mobility initiatives, establish new goals, and implement benchmarks to measure progress toward achieving economic mobility objectives.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training:

Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.

 

Experience:

Work requires 8 years of management experience, preferably in a highly complex, matrixed organization such as an academic medical center, medical school teaching hospital or research university.

OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE.
