Manage the business and production operations of The Chronicle to meet organizational objectives as determined by The Chronicle Board and The Chronicle's business and editorial departments.
Manage the newspapers advertising, circulation, subscription, production and accounting functions through accountable personnel; ensure advertising sales, service and cost containment objectives are met; ensure optimum readership levels attained through circulation and subscription; ensure proper accounting procedures are followed and timely collections made.
Formulate long term organizational plans in conjunction with the editorial staff; monitor and communicate status of plans to the editor.
Meet with editorial representatives to communicate, reconcile and establish editorial objectives, preferences and limits pertinent to the newspapers objectives.
With the editor, implement safeguards to avoid the publication of libelous material.
Assume responsibility for operations policy of all non editorial functions as designated by The Chronicle Board and University policies governing accounting procedures, payroll and personnel.
Determine fiscal requirements and prepare budgetary recommendations; approve expenses, purchases and contracts; secure self generated and subsidy funding as necessary to support the papers continued operation.
Through accountable personnel, plan and schedule work for the group, ensuring proper distribution of assignments and adequate manning, space and facilities for subsequent performance of duties.
Maintain liaison between the newspaper and appropriate University personnel to ensure continued operation and the realization of newspaper objectives.
Recommend various personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisals, promotions, transfers and vacation schedules.
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Education/Training: | Work requires knowledge of the theories and principles involved in managing the business and production operations of a newspaper generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Journalism or a related field. |
Experience: | Work requires three years of experience in a newspaper or other related business setting to become familiar with the activities and practices involved in business and production operations. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE. |
