The Office of the Provost, along with many campus partners, provides infrastructure services essential to supporting the education and safety of Duke faculty, staff, and students, including minors. Through good practices and partnerships, we strive to maximize the use of resources in fulfillment of the university's mission and align our programs with best practices in both education and safety practices and procedures. We are committed to creating and maintaining the safest possible physical environment on campus.
Develops Duke policies and procedures related to youth protection and further communicates these to University stakeholders who operate programs involving the participation of minors.
Ensuring Duke policies, regulations, and rules governing programs that involve the participation of minors are followed and University programs are held accountable.
Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local safety laws, regulations, codes, and rules.
Provide development, facilitation, monitoring, revision, and oversight of policies, protocols, training and compliance related activities to help groups hosting minors on campus provide a safe and healthy environment for participants.
Serves as the primary point of contact with respect to the University's response to reports of child abuse and maltreatment and ensuring that the University takes all necessary and appropriate actions in response to such reports.
Receives notifications and responds to all reports of suspected child abuse, works with the appropriate offices to determine next steps, and assists with the resolution of such cases including connecting the reporting program/ reporting individual with appropriate resources.
Reporting directly to the Associate Vice Provost of Academic Affairs, the Director of Youth Protection works closely with risk management, University Counsel, and central HR for policy development, implementation and compliance across all colleges and divisions of the University.
Serve as the University point-of-contact and subject matter expert for establishing and maintaining best practices in the protection of minors on campus.
Requires regular review and monitoring of policy compliance and will report recommendations for changes and/or modifications to senior University leadership.
Establish and maintain a youth compliance program consistent with the Federal Sentencing Guidelines elements of an effective compliance program.
Fostering a culture of compliance through outreach and engagement with University programs that involve the participation of minor.
Assisting in facilitating training for all University programs that involve the participation of minors.
Approval of training content in addition to centralized tracking and monitoring of individuals requiring and participating in training.
Education/Training: | Master's Degree required; JD preferred |
Experience: | Minimum of 5 years' of closely related professional experience. |
