Occupational Summary

Assist the Director, Radio pharmacy, in the management and coordination of activities of the radio pharmacy and nuclear medicine laboratory.

Work Performed

Manage activities involved in the formulation, packaging, labeling and distribution of radiopharmaceutical drug products in accordance with physicians prescriptions and in the performance of quality control tests to ensure purity and safety of medications.

Participate in long range clinical research projects involving radiopharmaceuticals or radiotracers.

Plan and schedule work for the group ensuring proper distribution of assignments and adequate staffing, space and facilities for subsequent performance of duties.

Provide technical guidance and instruction to physicians, hospital pharmacy residents, nuclear medicine technology students, medical technology students and other personnel assigned to the Radio pharmacy Laboratory.

Consult with medical and scientific staff on matters relating to radioactive drugs and tracers.

Ensure accurate maintenance of records of receipt and disposition of all radioactive drugs and sources as well as investigational new drugs in accordance with Federal and State regulations.

Develop and recommend new pharmaceutical procedures and techniques; prepare reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions.

Maintain inventory, reorder and stock drugs and supplies as required.

Plan and conduct meetings with subordinates to ensure compliance with established procedures, to implement new policies and to keep employees abreast of current changes and standards.

Recommend various personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisals, promotions and vacation schedules.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
