Occupational Summary

Plan, develop, coordinate and implement a variety of seminars, conferences, workshops and short courses for general and specialized audiences in cooperation with academic departments and outside organizations and agencies to provide credit and noncredit continuing education involving Duke University Educational Resources.

Work Performed

Plan, develop, coordinate and implement a variety of professionally- oriented seminars, conferences, workshops and short courses on a local, regional or national basis to include development of program content and schedules, preparation of promotional materials to attract general and specialized audiences, managing contractual arrangements, evaluation of programs and preparation of related reports.

Determine fiscal requirements to include return of profit and monitor expenditure of revenues; prepare cost estimates for programs to include housing, food service, transportation, facilities and office supplies; estimate participant costs as necessary and prepare and submit bids in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Maintain liaison with outside educational and professional organizations and agencies to explore implementation of specialized programs at Duke and to encourage adults to participate in continuing education program.

Develop a comprehensive promotion/publicity program for approved educational activities to include development of marketing strategies, analysis of market trends, and design and preparation of brochures, posters and other publicity material for publication and circulation in specialized or mass media; prepare and revise mailing lists and direct the mailing of promotional materials.

Develop and coordinate off campus learning programs to provide noncredit educational programs in areas of the state not serviced by major education centers.

Hire, train and supervise staff necessary to implement programs to include instructors, interns, counselors, support staff, volunteers and students.

Prepare financial and operational reports and analyses reflecting progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions.

Participate in supportive programs and activities for adult students concerning study skills, career opportunities, and changing life styles and family roles.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training:

Work requires communications, analytical and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program.

 

Experience:

Work requires four years experience in continuing education, curriculum design, marketing, administrative management or business to acquire skills necessary to plan, develop and coordinate a variety of seminars, conferences, workshops and short courses.

OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE.
