Direct the daily operation of the Mary Lou Williams Center for Black Culture to include planning, developing and promoting programmatic activities to ensure the Center's objectives are met.
Plan, organize and implement programs which preserve and enhance black culture for the University and the Durham community; organize publicity for activities sponsored by the Center.
Plan and provide for cultural, intellectual, and artistic programming to be held in the Center and across the campus and the Durham community, including, but not limited to, art exhibits, speakers, poetry readings, music and dance productions; obtain and secure black cultural artifacts to be displayed in the Center's gallery.
Advise and counsel students in matters pertaining to campus and off campus student organized activities; as appropriate, supervise students and student organizations in various projects and activities of a cultural, social and academic nature; provide overall direction to student organizations; serve as faculty advisor and supervisor to Karamu, providing professional assistance in theatrical undertakings; provide students with counseling and support in areas of interpersonal needs.
Establish and implement methods and procedures of operation for the Center and its activities and facilities to include the library and cultural exhibits.
Develop affiliations with various Duke academic departments and programs whose interests conjoin the cultures of people of color; work cooperatively with academic departments in developing and sponsoring activities and events which are of cultural and intellectual significance to students of color; meet with University faculty, staff, students and administrators and members of the Durham community to increase awareness of Center and its objectives. Determine fiscal requirements and prepare budgetary recommendations; monitor, verify and reconcile expenditures.
Direct various personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisals, promotions, transfers and vacation schedules.
Prepare reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Education/Training: | Work requires communications, organizational and analytical skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program. |
