Occupational Summary

Administer and coordinate the financial aid program for a School at Duke University.

Work Performed

Coordinate financial aid programs for students in the School; analyze financial information submitted by applicants utilizing established federal and University standards and guidelines to determine financial needs and eligibility; serve as standing chairperson of the School Financial Aid Committee.

Coordinate the selection of all fellowship recipients; maintain records and prepare reports related to the fellowship budget and disbursements; work with the School External Affairs Office as appropriate to develop new fellowship programs to meet the needs of specific donors.

Coordinate activities related to students' participation in student loan and college work study programs; allocate funds from various loan programs; counsel students regarding financial needs and advise regarding features of various loan programs and related issues; maintain liaison with lending institutions that serve the School's students; coordinate the processing of related paperwork; work with the Duke University Student Loan Office regarding alumni repayments.

Maintain liaison with the Bursar's Office regarding student tuition payments and with Accounting Operations regarding student payroll issues; coordinate various financial transactions including transfer of fellowship and scholarship funds to student accounts; maintain liaison between the School and the Graduate and Professional School Financial Aid Service.

Work with appropriate departments and centers to develop and maintain data systems to support the financial aid program.

Recommend various personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisals, promotions, transfers and vacation schedules.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training:

Work requires analytical and communication skills generally acquired through completion of a Bachelor's degree program.

 

Experience:

Work requires three years of experience in administering student financial aid programs at a college, university or private school.
