Occupational Summary

Provide planning and engineering services for construction, renovation and repairs programs by evaluating and preparing designs, specifications , and cost and feasibility estimations for proposed projects.

Work Performed

Review and evaluate project requests to determine feasibility and compatibility with existing facility plans.

Develop preliminary sketches and cost estimates on construction, repair, renovation and preventive maintenance projects; review preliminary sketches with customers making and suggesting modifications necessary to comply with existing facility plans and to meet customers needs.

Develop final drafts of drawings and sketches setting forth critical dimensions, layouts, existing and proposed mechanical and masonry installations; write material and workmanship specifications for projects to ensure compliance with planning and safety standards.

Prepare documents setting forth project specifications, bills of materials, man-hour projections, craft sequence, and quality and method standards to ensure timely and efficient completion of projects.

Define appropriate work sequence and lead time for the different craft classifications involved in a project to ensure efficient utilization of manpower.

Review and revise project specifications as changes are encountered to facilitate successful completion and obtain customers authorization for additional fund expenditure where applicable.

Provide technical guidance and direction to lower level personnel.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training:

Work requires an Associate's degree in Drafting, Architecture, Design or a related field to develop appropriate technical skills and analytical abilities.

 

Experience:

Work requires five years of progressively responsible experience in drafting, architecture, design and/or project management to include job estimating and project programming.

A Bachelor's degree in Architecture or Design may offset two years of required experience.
