his position reports directly to the Director of OBGE, with guidance from the Associate Dean for Research Training (ADRT), and will plan, coordinate or participate in programs to enable graduate students to be successful in their pursuit of a biomedical PhD. This role will serve as an expert in trainee success and wellness, oversee mentoring supports, resources, and personnel, and will support the Director and ADRT on OBGE initiatives and priorities important for achieving the mission of the office.
Leadership of Student Success and Wellness services and programmatic activities for students in the School of Medicine (SOM) biomedical graduate programs
Oversee workshops and initiatives in Student Success and Wellness, partnering with relevant units (individual basic science departments, The Graduate School, etc.) on campus to maximize expertise and minimize duplication of efforts
Lead the design, implementation, and assessment of programs, courses, and services in Student Success and Wellness to be offered centrally from OBGE
Oversee and manage the daily work of a team of Biomedical Graduate Program Administrators assigned to provide student services supports to all SOM graduate students.
Use project management software and knowledge of operations management best practices to ensure efficient and effective project management of student services from OBGE.
Oversee data tracking from student services support and programs to monitor efficacy and training outcomes, preparing reports for the SOM, The Graduate School, and Provost Office for grant applications, progress reports, and annual accreditation reports
Evaluate effectiveness of programs and implement improvements as required
Develop and exhibit expertise in student success and wellness to include writing for publication, presenting to groups, and serving as a resource to others (i.e. trainees, wellness coaches-in-training) in area of expertise
Cultivate partnerships with SOM biomedical PhD programs, The Graduate School, administrative units in the SOM and the University, and campus wide student services offices to ensure consistent delivery of high quality support and programmatic elements to SOM PhD students
Maintain liaison with Directors of Graduate Studies, faculty, and students among the SOM PhD programs to exchange information on current and future OBGE student success and wellness opportunities
Stay abreast of and communicate the latest research and best practices in student success and wellness
Prepare presentations, reports, and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends, and appropriate recommendations or conclusions.
Initiate, implement, and/or oversee robust Student Success & Wellness Coaching resources for SOM trainees
Offer individualized Success & Wellness Coaching for SOM PhD students and connect with the larger TGS and Duke network of coaches to develop a service model that best matches the needs of SOM students.
Design, implement, and assess new programs, courses, and services in Trainee Success & Wellness to be integrated throughout the PhD training experience
Plan, lead and conduct information sessions, workshops, and trainings and prepare various written materials for Directors of Graduate Study and PhD program administrators to provide them with latest and most effective resources to support their trainees well-being.
Manage, track, and disseminate OBGE and SOM and TGS mental health resources and trainings to ensure students, mentors, and administrators have timely and adequate services to respond to mental health needs of students.
Develop contacts in new areas to meet student and PhD program needs
Oversee centralized mentoring resources including:
Development and oversight of a centralized OBGE Peer Mentoring Network, coordinating mentor training for PhD student mentors, providing support, resources, and best practices in mentoring for 10 peer mentors per year, and supervising the integration of peer mentoring into OBGE activities and offerings in the SOM PhD programs
Train and supervise students and peer mentors as assigned.
Coordination of Faculty Mentor trainings and collaborative data tracking with School of Medicine Office for Research Mentoring (ORM)
Develop and participate in OBGE-led workshops, courses, and orientations relevant to mentoring, peer-to-peer support, and advising
Support OBGE Director on office initiatives and priorities that impact student success and the OBGE mission
Develop and implement general OBGE communications and outreach plans, oversee management of relevant OBGE listservs and OBGE website, disseminate news, events, opportunities/deadlines, student and faculty honors/awards and achievements to relevant audiences through one-off communications and regular newsletter
Provide coordination support for student and faculty events as requested by the Director
Support OBGE Leadership in the coordination and management of fellowships, awards, and workshops including event planning, budget tracking, and coordination of review committee functions.
Provide other supports or roles to fulfill OBGE mission and goals as assigned by the Director or ADRT.

| Education/Training: | Work generally requires communications, analytical and organizational skills acquired through completion of a master degree. National Board Certification in Integrative Health and Wellness Coaching is preferred but not required. |
| Experience: | Work requires one year of experience in graduate education administration, advising, trainee resource development, or other student services function and training and programming in Integrative Health and Wellness. |
| Skills: | Work requires a high degree of professionalism and creativity, with a keen focus on service, collaboration, communication, and innovation. This role requires excellent organizational, project management, and event planning skills. Flexibility to adapt to changing structures and processes is required.
