Occupational Summary

The Director, Strategy and Partnership Development, DMG will be responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership as well as management for global strategy, global business/partnership development and global client delivery in advisory service and customized education and training, across Duke Medicine (including SOM, SON, and DUHS).

The Director, Strategy and Partnership Development, will work closely with the Head of Global Innovation, Duke Medicine as well as senior and operational leadership across Duke Medicine to develop, implement, and supervise strategic and operational plans for global initiatives, coordinate global business development activities, manage relationships globally, and also lead internal and external communications efforts regarding these initiatives.

The Director, Strategy and Partnership Development, DMG will report to the Head of Global Innovation, Duke Medicine, and will ensure alignment of activities to the strategic direction provided by senior leaders and advisors, including the DMG Strategy and Management Group, President, Chancellor, DUHS Board of Directors, and DU Board of Trustees.

Work Performed

Strategy

Strategic and operational management of Office of DMG, responsible for strategic and operational planning and implementation across multiple entities and programs across Duke Medicine; including strategic planning, budget development, staff recruitment, staff evaluations and policy development Engagement of faculty and administrative leaders across Duke University and Duke Medicine to articulate strategy for engagement in global partnerships and collaborations in order to enhance Duke Medicine's global mission.

Coordinate and facilitate regular communication among internal and external stakeholders.

Represent Duke Medicine at relevant leadership meetings throughout Duke; attend and present at Board meetings, as needed.

Business Development

Interaction with public and private sector leaders and clients across the world to represent Duke and negotiate deals and engagements, for increasingly complex portfolio of work aligned with the mission and vision of Duke Medicine Oversight of development of strategic business plans, including financial modeling and pro forma development, for proposed global activities Responsible for due diligence and prioritization of global business opportunities.

Management of drafting, review, editing of contracts and other documents, and review process for legal documents, working closely with Duke senior leadership, Office of Counsel, and external counsel.

Negotiation of terms and contracts with external entities, including management of internal teams including contracts, legal groups.

Travel to Asia, Middle East, and/or other regions up to four to six times annually, often on short notice Lead and participate in meetings with potential clients and collaborators, as needed and accommodating different global time zones.

Operations and Team Management

Oversight of development and implementation of external and internal communications plans regarding Duke Medicine global activities.

Management of growing core DMG team of project managers, analysts, advisory services senior managers and administrative support staff to ensure day-to-day running of DMG and delivery of high quality work products to clients and collaborators Responsible for growth and professional development of DMG staff Development of policies and procedures as appropriate.

Development and management of annual DMG budget.

Responsibility for multiple affiliate corporations involved in global activities, including Duke Medicine Global Support Corporation, Duke Medicine Asia Pte. Ltd., (Singapore), Duke India Services Pte. Ltd. (India), DUHS Global, LLC Client/Program Delivery Management and delivery of a dynamic and complex portfolio of global client-facing projects, balancing academic mission with revenue potential, brand considerations and other key criteria Leadership of multiple project engagement teams of core DMG staff, Duke Medicine faculty and other experts; supervision and coordination of all activities and operations related to project implementation.

Responsibility for executing advisory services programs and projects, delivering high quality reports and recommendations to clients globally.

Development and implementation of short-term training programs for learners from around the world, focused on management and leadership development

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training:

Work requires business development, analytical, financial and program management skills normally acquired through the completion of a Master's degree program.

 

Experience:

Work requires at least 5 years progressive business development and/or program management experience. Strong communication and facilitation skills are required to work with corporate executives.

A Master's degree in Hospital Administration, Business Administration or a related field is preferred but may be substituted for experience on a 1:1 basis.
