The Flow Engineer position will be responsible for maintaining and operating cytometers, and implementing innovative cytometry based approaches in support of the scientific research activities of the Duke Human Vaccine Institute and collaborating entities.
Fully Comply with appropriate DHVI/GHRB Safety and Compliance SOPs.
Run Cell Sorters/Analyzers to meet the needs of all Facility end users, as directed by the Facility Director, Manager and DHVI leadership.
Perform regular preventative maintenance, repairs, and upgrades on sorters and analyzers. Work with DHVI Flow Facility Director/Manager in development of new flow cytometry technologies and applications.
Ensure data, run templates, sort reports and all associated documents/files per end user and Facility SOPs are uploaded into appropriate Facility archival systems.
Maintain Select Agent Authorization and BSL3 work certification. Work with hazardous biological agents handled at BSL2 and BSL3.
Perform other duties as requested by the DHVI Flow Facility Director/Manager, Shared Resources Scientific Director, COO and Director.
Education/Training: | Bachelor's degree in science related field or electronic technology related field. Four years of military technical training and/or vocational training in electronics or technology may substitute for the degree requirement. 2. Minimum of 5 years of direct relevant experience 3. Willing and able to: a. Work with hazardous biological agents handled at BSL2 and BSL3 b. Comply with vaccination requirements when necessary c. Complete US Department of Justice screening for Select Agent registration d. Complete Select Agent registration at Tier 1 e. Achieve external certification for independent work at BSL3 |
Experience: | Minimum of 5 years of direct relevant experience |
Skills: | Experience in maintenance/repair and operation of BD FACS Aria and/or Influx flow cytometers. Experience in BD cytometry software, including DIVA and Software. Experience in Biosafety Levels 2 and 3 containment |
