Occupational Summary

Direct the overall activities of Food Vending, Drink Vending, Office Coffee Service, Washer/Dryer program, Blue Devil Concessions and Special Marketing Events to include merchandising, display, sales, inventory levels, maintenance of cash receipts, record keeping and preparation of pertinent financial reports.

Work Performed

Provide overall direction in the development and administering plans for product mix, pricing structures, delivery services and marketing strategies; plan, implement and monitor the annual physical inventory; ensure all inventories are complete and maintained at proper levels

Manage the functions of the Marketing Office and Licensing Program; ensure time schedules are met and marketing plans adhered to; develop and maintain contractual agreements with vendors to ensure compliance with University purchasing policies and procedures.

Manage the ordering, receiving, storing, pricing, advertising, packaging and researching of all merchandise selections; assist in the formulation of policies related to marketing of merchandise

Prepare annual budget of anticipated sales, expenses, and inventories; review financial statements and reports for assigned areas regularly, assess information, ensure accuracy, and develop and administer plans to ensure efficient operations. Prepare the annual Personnel budget for Duke University Stores Operations.

Manage the operations of Duke University Stores Operations in the absence of the Director.

Analyze problem areas within DUSO and recommend resolutions; serve as consultant to management on all financial, operational, merchandising and organizational matters; evaluate proposed policies/procedures and make recommendations for increased savings/cost reductions; recommend procurement of equipment and facilities; keep Director advised on the status of current activities, additional or expanded program requirements and appropriate recommendations for solutions to problems.

Develop plans for approval by Director for all new business proposals including budget preparations, personnel, store design, product mix, pricing structures and marketing strategies.

Keep departmental management advised on personnel issues; in conjunction with the departmental personnel manager, maintain liaison with Human Resources regarding personnel problems, issues and special requests and to facilitate personnel actions; coordinate recruitment, screening and interviewing of applicants for departmental positions; screen and review departmental classification request for appropriateness; assist management with salary budget planning and staffing requirements.

Direct various personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, performance planning, promotions, transfers and vacation schedules

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training:

Work requires communications, analytical and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.

 

Experience:

Work requires the ability to manage operational and administrative activities within Stores operations generally acquired through six years experience in store operations, retail, merchandising, personnel, marketing, athletic food concessions, vending or related business.
