Occupational Summary

Direct and coordinate staff, systems and procedures related to processing of sponsor supported clinical research contracts and agreements; monitor the contracting process to maximize efficiency of contract execution.

Work Performed

Direct and coordinate staff, systems and procedures related to processing of sponsor supported clinical research contracts and agreements for the Duke Clinical Research Institute; manage daily activities of the contracts group, including component processes such as the legal language, scope of work, budget and payment schedule and assembly of the final contract package for each project.

Design procedures to effect the timely execution of agreements, letters of intent and contracts for all sponsor supported research agreements in accordance with organizational and departmental policies.

Define, establish and implement quality control procedures on contract documentation, storage and follow up; approve all functional group standard operating procedures.

Prepare and monitor regular status reports provided to project management regarding trial-specific contract information.

Prepare and monitor budget for the contract group.

Establish short and long term goals, both functional and fiscal, for the Duke Clinical Research Institute Contracts Team; provide management with action plans and assessment criteria.

Represent the Chief Financial Officer in meetings and conferences with sponsors and other Duke departments regarding process issues.

Manage various personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisal, disciplinary actions, staffing schedules and employee development.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training:

Work requires an educational background normally equivalent to a bachelor's degree.

 

Experience:

Work requires a minimum of seven years experience in contracting related to the clinical trials, pharmaceutical, medical device, biotechnology and/or contract research industry, to include previous supervisory experience.

A master's degree in a related field may be substituted for two years of required experience.
