Occupational Summary

Supervise and coordinate the activities of the Duke Temporary Services including recruiting, hiring and placing temporary employees, billing departments, processing payroll forms to initiate payment to employees, and recommending and monitoring budget; train permanent and temporary employees in clerical skills; supervise the temporary employment application function.

Work Performed

Interview, evaluate, and hire applicants for temporary employment at Duke University; evaluate personal data, educational background, and occupational skills to determine applicant qualifications.

Match Duke Temporary Service employees qualifications with job specifications; assign employee to temporary jobs within the University.

Maintain liaison with University departments to promote utilization of the Duke Temporary Services, to determine job type and rate for temporary position, to evaluate employees performance, and to ensure departments satisfaction with employee by correcting misunderstandings and/or counseling or replacing employee.

Recruit employees through a variety of methods including, but not limited to, advertising, attendance at job fairs, and special promotions to ensure an adequate pool of temporary employees.

Determine fiscal requirements and prepare budgetary recommendations for Temporary Services; monitor revenue and expenditure of funds to ensure cost recovery; recommend rate structure for Duke Temporary Services employees.

Supervise office staff performing payroll, billing, and revenue functions for Duke Temporary Services and staff performing interviewing, evaluating and placement functions to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures.

Authorize all requisitions for temporary employees from outside agencies; contact outside agencies when Duke Temporary Service employees cannot fill departments needs.

Determine training requirements for clerical employees; develop and conduct training courses in word processing for permanent employees referred by their departments and in word processing, medical terminology, and Dictaphone for Duke Temporary Service employees.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training:

Work generally requires organizational, analytical and communication skills normally acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program.

 

Experience:

Work generally requires five years of experience acquired through supervisory, business, administrative, or practical work experience.
