Develop, implement, and coordinate communications strategies essential to the management of clinical research projects conducted by Principal Investigators at the DCRI; Lead and coordinate projects and the work: writing, editing, and designing of materials of the clinical communications specialist staff. Develop, implement, and coordinate communications strategies for the promotion of the DCRI to pharmaceutical companies, device companies, biotechnology companies, and other medical organizations. Lead the preparation for publication of scientific reports, education materials, manuals, product or drug brochures and literature and revise existing literature. Function in a preceptor capacity for Clinical Research Communications Specialists.
Coordinate and lead the work of the clinical communications specialists and provide feedback to the Director of Communications on a routine basis; conduct cross functional communication team meetings as needed.
Create and adjust workflow process as needed.
Develop, implement, and coordinate communication strategies essential to the management of clinical trials research projects conducted by Principal Investigators at the Duke Clinical Research Institute (DCRI).
Develop the identity of clinical research projects, including the creation of a logo, selection of typefaces, and layout of materials.
Supervise the writing, editing, and designing of manuscripts, abstracts, oral and poster presentations, patient educational materials and in- service materials that comply with the look of a clinical research project.
Assign clinical communications specialist staff to clinical research projects, i.e. make work assignments.
Supervise the creation and delivery of presentations that convey the result of clinical research projects/data to healthcare professionals at major national and international conferences.
Assure that presentations are legible and that data are presented in a professional and understandable way.
Work with directly with faculty to assure the presentations are accurate and on time.
Work with Principal Investigators and Project Leaders in the development of communications plans, timelines, and processes for clinical research studies; contribute to the ongoing communications strategy to reflect the modification of protocols as appropriate.
Coordinate communications strategies for the promotion of the DCRI to pharmaceutical companies, device companies, biotechnology companies and other medical organizations.
Create and generate ideas for materials that will promote the DCRI to outside sources and supervise their execution.
Collaborate with Principal Investigators and Project Leaders to explain communications protocol and to elicit compliance with communications plans; identify potential problems and/or inconsistencies and take action as appropriate.
Work directly with the Chief Operating Officer, the Chief Medical Officer, the Director of Human Resources, and the Chief Executive Officer to develop effective internal communications that affect all employees and external communications.
Assure that these communications comply with University standards and that the DCRI presents a consistent and professional image at major national and international conferences.
Work directly with the Chief Medical Officers and Chief Executive Officers of various pharmaceutical and device companies to develop effective communications protocols.
Assure that their educational and promotional projects are completed on time and on budget.
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Education/Training: | Work requires a bachelor's degree in English, journalism, graphic design, or related field. |
Experience: | Five years of clinical trial communications experience including supervisory/management experience.
