Occupational Summary

Manage and direct all phases of the Duke University Golf Club to include Golf Shop stores operations, tournament promotions, equipment purchase and repair and grounds maintenance; serve as golfing professional.

Work Performed

Direct the operation of the Duke University Golf Shop which includes merchandising, maintenance of records, analysis of personnel and space needs, inventory control, product evaluation, scheduling and customer service.

Plan and coordinate various events and activities to include golf tournaments and clinics; promote services and recruit businesses, clubs and individuals to use facilities; develop promotional materials and promote new services.

Serve as liaison with the management of Washington Duke Inn regarding Golf Shop space, services to hotel guests, planning of policies and procedures and coordination of events and activities.

Direct and monitor the golf course grounds maintenance activities; coordinate purchase and repair of golf course maintenance equipment.

Monitor merchandise sales and golf course usage; prepare operational reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate conclusions and recommendations to maximize revenue and usage; analyze needs and plan short and long range goals.

Serve as golfing professional; organize and teach both private and group golf lessons.

Represent Duke University Golf Club in professional, civic, charity and alumni events.

Determine fiscal requirements and prepare budgetary recommendations.

Recommend various personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisals, promotions, transfers and vacation schedules.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training:

Work requires a general educational background normally equivalent to completion of a bachelor's degree.

 

Experience:

Work requires a minimum of three years progressive experience in golf course management to include knowledge of golf course operations, retail services and the planning and coordination of promotional activities.
