Occupational Summary

Assist in the evaluation and analysis of networking needs and provide for integration of multiple hardware and operating system platforms; install, provide configuration management for and troubleshoot local area and/or wide area networks; provide assistance to user departments; assist in the establishment of network standards and training programs.

Work Performed

Assist in the evaluation and analysis of networking needs and provide for integration of multiple hardware and operating system platforms within network systems.

Assist in the analysis of user department network needs and evaluate vendor recommendations; provide assistance and training to departmental local area network coordinators and other users.

Install, provide configuration management for and troubleshoot network software and hardware; install and upgrade network operating system and network-based applications.

Assist in providing network security and backup and restoration of user files; assist in monitoring network performance.

Participate in the establishment of hardware and software standards for networking and in the planning, expansion and growth of local area networking.

Maintain liaison with representatives of other university date processing operations, professional organizations and equipment manufacturers to ensure utilization of current principles and techniques.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training:

Work requires a Bachelor's degree in a computer related field, or equivalent course work or technical training.

 

Experience:

Work requires one year of local area network management, programming experience or analytical experience with knowledge of several computer languages, programs or systems.
