Occupational Summary

Coordinate the installation, evaluation and analysis of a networking infrastructure; provide comprehensive integration of multiple hardware and operating system platforms; provide management for design, implementation and troubleshooting of network systems; establish network standards and training programs.

Work Performed

Provide coordination for networking needs including design, evaluation, analysis and installation to provide for integration of multiple hardware and operating system platforms within a large complex network system.

Analyze campus wide and/or user department network needs and evaluate vendor recommendations; provide comprehensive network design specifications for additions and upgrades to the existing infrastructure.

Coordinate network security and backup and restoration measures; coordinate response efforts for unplanned outages or other network security issues.

Establish hardware and software standards for networking and in the planning, expansion and growth of network technology.

Evaluate new products and emerging technologies for their suitability within the framework of the current network architecture.

Maintain liaison with representatives of other university information technology operations, professional organizations and equipment manufacturers to ensure utilization of current principles and techniques.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training:

Work requires a Bachelors degree in mathematics or computer-related field, or equivalent coursework or technical training.

 

Experience:

Work requires four years of local area network management, programming experience or analytical experience with knowledge of several computer languages, programs or systems.
