The Financial Guidance Counselor will provide financial, credit, and debt management counseling and education to members, staff, and families through through training courses, seminars, workshops, presentations, and Duke University events.
Provide financial and debt management counseling to members.
Develop spending plans for members.
Has a thorough knowledge of financial counseling techniques to ensure member-related issues are handled in a fair and consistent manner.
Provide training and education to members, families, and staff through training courses, seminars, workshops, presentations and Duke University events to educate on the proper use of credit transaction accounts, financial and consumer issues.
Keep current on Duke University referral services to ensure members are aware of all available resources.
Have a thorough knowledge of credit bureau issues to help members with adverse information reported.
Keep current in financial trends.
Have a thorough knowledge of all credit union's products and services and the credit union's data processing systems.
Coordinate with other partners (Balance Financial, CUNA Mutual, Duke Human Resources), as needed, to assist members in resolving their financial affairs.
Prepare and maintain accurate records of all member contact, including loan documentation, spending and repayment plans, legal documentation, and written correspondence.
Assist with delinquency control, bankruptcy and charge-offs.
Keep current and be knowledgeable of all credit union policies and procedures, and all applicable laws and regulations.
Cross-sell mortgage loan programs
Responsible for marketing credit union services by cross selling.
For the purpose of attaining member and Credit Union goals, it is the responsibility of the Financial Guidance Counselor to strive for continuous quality improvement of processes and quality of service to internal and external customers.
Maintain effective communication with all credit union members and credit union partners to ensure coordination and exchange of information.
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Education/Training: | Work requires knowledge, skills and abilities normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor's degree. Completion of all STAR and Merit courses preferred. |
Experience: | Work requires two years experience in credit union lending or related field. Prior work in loan decision making and processing, credit union operations, and data processing is preferred. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE |
