Occupational Summary

Manage and participate in a variety of activities involved in financial analysis and reporting.

Work Performed

Manage the preparation of annual operating budget for CAMC departments, ensuring that staff review for accuracy and compliance within university guidelines.

Manage staff responsible for systems administration; responsibilities associated with Hyperion Pillar, Hyperion Essbase, Hyperion Reporting, BW-BPS, Cognos, and CRIS.

Manage the financial analysis and reports for CAMC departments as performed by staff members, identifying to senior management areas of strategic opportunities and risks, alternatives, and contingencies.

Assist Director, Budgets and Analysis with coordinating the preparation of Duke University's annual and quarterly financial reports for senior management and Board of Trustee review.

Manage annual salary setting processes for Duke University exempt, non- exempt, local bargaining unit, university officers, highly compensated and substantial authority employees.

Advise, educate, and serve as a resource for departmental fiscal officers and senior management on budget and financial issues.

Manage staff charged with the review/approval of position management transactions for CAMC departments; ensuring impact on operating budget for new positions, position re-orgs, reclassifications, etc. are clearly apparent to senior management.

Manage year-end close process for CAMC departments, ensuring staff review transactions for accuracy and compliance within university guidelines, communicating significant operating budget variances to senior management for appropriate action.

Attend routine status meetings with departmental business managers and directors of finance, gaining insight and knowledge regarding financial operating activity.

Develop and mentor staff.

Recommend various personnel actions including but not limited to hiring, performance appraisals, promotions, and transfers.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training:

Work requires a bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration or a related business field. CPA preferred.

 

Experience:

Work requires a minimum of six years experience in financial management, cost accounting, or a field directly related to specialized area of assignment.
