Occupational Summary

The Assistant Vice President for Communication Strategy and Operations plays a pivotal role as a senior member of the leadership team, who reports to the Vice President for Communications, Marketing, and Public Affairs (VPCMPA). This position is responsible for overseeing the operational strategy for executing university-wide campaigns, administrative operations, and partnerships. Moreover, the Assistant Vice President acts as the chief of staff to the Vice President for Communications, Marketing, and Public Affairs.

Work Performed

The Assistant Vice President for Communication Strategy and Operations will lead all operations for the office of marking and communications (MarComms) and for the Vice President of Communications, Marketing, & Public Affairs.

Operationalize the communication campaigns, lead project management, team development, special projects.

At the direction of the VPCMPA, will manage departmental budget to boost team development, support communication campaigns, and meet university objectives.

Will serve as a liaison for the VPCMPA and will work with executive leadership on strategy and high-level planning including but not limited to, events, special projects, and communications projects.

Will provide strategic counsel, reporting, productivity data analysis, and metrics to suggest initiatives for improving workflow, teamwork, and budget management.

Implement an efficient and effective project management system to measure team performance. Identify KPIs and metrics for routine reporting that align with university and departmental strategic priorities.

Oversee daily operations: Your chief of staff role includes working on the everyday action items that executive team members do not have time to carry out, such as working with department leaders on project coordination and business administration.

Serve as a thought partner and strategic advisor to the VPCMPA, standing in on meetings, challenging ideas and offering a different perspective, and following up on action items with the team accordingly.

Convene and lead regular meetings of the VPCMPA department leads and the senior communication leadership council.

Be a problem-solver identifying employee issues and provide workable solutions, holding confidential information and effectively communicating the pertinent details.

Elevate community issues and challenges (including crisis situations) to the surface for consideration, ensure appropriate action, and communicate results throughout CMPA and/or the university.

Represents CMPA in major University committees and establishes meaningful working relationships with key stakeholders, including community members, students, alumni, and colleagues within academics, health, and administration. Develop and oversee the strategic deployment of CMPA resources (financial, intellectual, and research/scholarship) within the community. Operationalize the current strategic plan and implementation of institutional initiatives related to community engagement (such as task force recommendations). Guide future planning processes and special projects for the office. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described therein. Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training:

Work requires communication, analytical and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program in Journalism, Communications, English or a related discipline. A Master's degree preferred.

 

Experience:

Work requires 8 years of experience in communications or a related discipline to include a minimum of three years of experience in the higher education field. Must have strong writing skills.
