Occupational Summary

Position is responsible for developing, implementing and compiling the assessment and evaluation of program effectiveness for medical students and graduate medical education trainees. Responsibilities will include data analysis and reporting for educational quality improvement, accreditation, and scholarly activities. This position will be shared 50:50 with UME and GME.

Work Performed

Design and offer feedback on student evaluations for all courses in the curriculums for Medicine, Doctor of Physical Therapy Program, Pathology Assistant Program, Summer Medical and Dental Enrichment Program, and graduate medical education.

Serve as a consultant to graduate education programs for trainee and program evaluation. Conduct workshops on methods of student evaluation.

Conduct faculty development workshops for Course Directors on assessment strategies that employ a variety of measures of knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behavior. Consult with faculty on ways to improve course tests.

Develop course evaluation and assessment tools based on defined goals and objectives. Design, implement and follow through on a comprehensive course review system.

Assist in the development of ACGME preferred rotation and program evaluation and assessment tools (such as 360 evaluations, portfolios and key elements of maintenance of certification) based on defined goals and objectives for graduate medical education programs.

Identify aggregate data and plan a system to allow collection and analysis of educational outcomes. Consult with faculty who are developing and implementing educational innovations, including strategies for evaluating the innovations and measuring outcomes

Run appropriate statistical analyses on data sets generated by assessment activities. Assist in the design of a longitudinal evaluation database of student and graduate medical trainee performance. Develop graphics, reports, and presentations summarizing findings. Keep all posters, fliers and handouts up to date with current data.

Consult with faculty champion on the development of faculty development sessions, including strategies for evaluating the activities. Collaborate with peer institutions in the development, implementation and presentation of educational research.

Conduct formative, summative, longitudinal and outcome assessment activities required by the LCME and ACGME, including tracking and analyzing data from USMLE Steps 1, 2, 2CS, and 3, and Shelf exams.

Conduct educational research pertinent to the School of Medicine and Graduate Medical Education mission. Seek grant funding for educational research.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training:

Bachelors Degree required

Preferred Masters degree in education, public health, statistics or related field; doctoral degree preferred.

 

Experience:

5 years relevant experience required with a minimum of 3 years quantitative assessment of programs, individual performance and outcomes. Must also have experience in designing and writing scholarly reports.

 

Skills:

This position is responsible for developing and implementing a thorough student course evaluation program along with course reviews program. Advanced skills in PC/Office (Excel, Access, Word); statistical analysis and assessment software (e.g., SAS, SPSS).

Must have strong oral and written communication skills; a proven record of collaboration and teamwork; be self-directed; flexible and adaptable to the needs of UME and GME.
