Occupational Summary

The Education & Outreach Manager is responsible for working internally with scientists, informatics, and staff as well as externally with individuals and groups at local, regional, national and international levels.

Work Performed

Determine and develop long- and short-term goals, strategic planning, and program development for education programs, outreach programs, diversity efforts and efforts with underserved groups within the research science and educational communities.

Collaborate and cultivate relationships with business, academic, science, and educational groups nationwide in education and outreach program development. Recruit, supervise and direct faculty and staff for educational and outreach programs and working groups.

Create, develop and coordinate national and international conferences and meetings on educational and outreach activities and strategies. Represent the organization via participation and presentations at national and international meetings.

Communicate organizational activities including development and implementation of 1) media strategies, 2) journalism projects, 3) website, 4) brochures, articles, etc. Write press releases and articles.

Outreach and education for the research science community and postdoctoral fellows including: professional development, and assistance with broader impact activities (database development, grant writing consultation, implementation assistance)

Outreach to the education community including: development and distribution of activities, materials and resources, and participation in national committees designed to address issues and develop solutions

Outreach to underserved groups including: participation in committees designed to address issues and develop solutions, organization and implementation of outreach activities, and development of resources.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training:

Master's degree or other advanced degree required. Ph.D. preferred.

 

Experience:

Minimum of three years of related experience required.

 

Skills:

Science writing skills, communication skills, grant writing, supervisory experience, program management.
