Occupational Summary

Serve as working supervisor for a specialized Clinical laboratory.

Work Performed

Perform all duties and responsibilities of Clinical Technologist or Specialist personnel supervised.

Manage and coordinate daily technical operations of lab. Coordinate task assignments to ensure lab commitments and standards of quality are met. Monitor adherence to physician's orders, patient care plans, and practice guidelines.

Monitor adherence to Duke policies and procedures, technical practice standards and regulatory guidelines. Oversight of quality assurance and teaching of in-service education classes.

Assist in determining fiscal requirements and preparing budgetary recommendations; compile data for operational reports and analyses setting forth progress, trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions.

Ensure adequate inventory of supplies, materials and equipment required for unit; maintain liaison with equipment and supply vendors.

Participate in the development of professional standards and quality assurance programs; teach in-service education classes as required.

Supervise various personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, merit recommendations, promotions, transfers and vacation schedules; coordinate task assignments to ensure departmental commitments and standards of quality are met. Appraise performance of all staff members. Develop performance plans and professional goals. Implement any necessary corrective actions.

Attend workshops, seminars, and professional meetings to keep abreast of technological changes and management techniques.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Completion of an Allied Health degree in related field.

North Carolina State Licensure, Registry and/or certifications required, where applicable.

Experience

Three years of experience in related clinical therapy, supervisory experience preferred.

OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
