Occupational Summary
Supervise and participate in the design, production, and installation of directional and informational signage in accordance with University and Duke Medicine standards and customer specifications.
Work Performed
Plan and schedule work for the group ensuring proper distribution of assignments and adequate staffing, equipment and materials for adequate performance of duties.
Review, analyze and distribute incoming work requests to ensure proper balance of workload in the shop; make work assignments and prioritize orders as received and make adjustments as necessary.
Confer with customers to confirm order requirements and specifications; provide estimates as requested; resolve customer issues as required.
Review and process completed work orders; maintain shop logs; review and process daily time cards.
Monitor work for the group providing advice and assistance as needed; adjust and reassign work as necessary to meet customer demands and overall shop efficiency.
Coordinate the training of new personnel; ensure staff is properly trained on procedures and equipment to ensure efficiency and effectiveness.
Make budget recommendations associated with the operation of the Sign Shop ensuring adequate staffing and equipment to meet current and future needs.
Recommend various personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, performance reviews, promotions, corrective actions, and scheduling.
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level
Education/Training
Work requires a graphic design background normally acquired through a two year Associate Degree in Graphic Design or related field.
Experience
Work requires 4 years of experience in sign making, sufficient to become familiar with all facets of the business to include engraving, vinyl cutting and digital printing. Some experience required in running a sign business and/or related supervisory experience.
