Occupational Summary

Conducts various biometrics measurement procedures using professional clinical nursing skills for the purpose of collecting, interpreting, and recording pertinent health data. Establishes positive interaction, using refined communication skills, with all levels of employees for the purposes of laying a foundation for the educational process, maintaining employee relations, and providing health service.

Work Performed

Assesses educational needs and provides participants with appropriate health information using sound nursing and adult education principles so that all employees may assume responsibility for their own health.

Counsels employees on an individual basis using nursing skills regarding borderline and high risk biometric measures and makes referrals to appropriate health care resources.

Identifies and refers employees to both on-site and community resources, as appropriate, which can help participants, acquire and maintain optimal health.

Maintains accurate nursing records and reports to ensure appropriate collection of data and generation of statistics.

Completes set up and break down of the HealthCheck site on screening days.

Act as Site Manager as needed to oversee HealthCheck operations at scheduled sites.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires graduation from an accredited Bachelors of Science in Nursing, Associate Degree in Nursing or Nursing Diploma program. State of North Carolina licensure is required. Current CPR certification is required.

Experience

Work requires no previous experience. Experience or knowledge of adult health education, counseling, exercise physiology, and/or health promotion product delivery is preferred.

Candidates are preferred who have had experience in one or more of the following areas:

Health promotion product delivery/health screening including: smoking cessation, blood pressure management, nutrition, and percent body fat calculations.

Nursing in a health education department of a hospital, university, school system, health department, or in a cardiac rehabilitation unit.

Occupational health or wellness nursing program.

Technical expertise with the Vitros DT 60 analyzer or Cholestech.

OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Interpersonal qualifications/skills: Must role model high-level aspects of wellness and have a healthy appearance. The individual should be congenial, enjoy interacting with people; be able to adapt rapidly to change; and be able to communicate clearly and effectively.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The mobile nature of HealthCheck requires nurses to carry various pieces of heavy equipment in and out of buildings and at times up stairs. Equipment is lifted in and out of a van as well as on and off a cart. Set up of the HealthCheck site requires arranging rooms and requires moving conference tables and chairs. For screenings, we load in the van, carry, and set up our own tables and chairs. Set up and breakdown account for 25-30% of the job.
