Occupational Summary

Install, operate, modify, maintain and repair high voltage electrical distribution systems, facilities and related systems in accordance with applicable national and local codes, ordinances, and safety rules.

Work Performed

-Install, maintain, test and repair a variety of high voltage electrical distribution systems, facilities and related systems to include high voltage distribution feeders and conduits in and between buildings and their respective substations.

-Maintain, test and repair high voltage distribution equipment including transformers, unit substations, distribution switchboards, switchformers, switchgear, cables and cable splicing and termination equipment, and related protective and metering devices in accordance with applicable national and local codes, ordinances and safety rules.

-Provide allied construction to include installation of telephone vaults and conduits, pulling of cables, trenching and backfilling for street and traffic light installation.

-Perform layout work on the construction of manholes, vaults, and duct lines for power, control and communication cables equipment pads for high voltage equipment, and cable and bus runs for vaults and substations.

-Prepare and execute schedules for preventive maintenance and routine testing of high voltage distribution system components.

-Provide technical guidance and direction to lower level employees.

-Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

-Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.

-Possess a valid North Carolina driver's license.

-Received First Aid and CPR training.

-Received training on the use of portable fire extinguisher.

-Received training on fire safety.

-Received training on OSHA standards for lockout/tagout procedures.

-Received training on safety in the following areas: high voltage, low voltage, and street lighting work.

-Possess an electrical license or department certification.

Experience

Must have 6 years experience in a high voltage environment.

OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
