Occupational Summary

Perform skilled specialized work in the analysis, service, repair and design modification of scientific refrigeration systems to ensure optimum operating conditions.

Work Performed

Perform skilled specialized work in the analysis, service, repair and design modification of refrigeration systems in walk-in cold rooms and environmental chambers to ensure optimum operating conditions.

Analyze system problems; determine cause of malfunction or system failure, advise supervisor of corrective action and carry out approved maintenance, repair, or design modification in accordance with supervisor's instructions and maintenance schedules.

Construct and install refrigeration systems and related controls from technical schematics, diagrams and blueprints to include electronic and microprocessor-controlled temperature devices, special control systems, and alarm devices needed to alert maintenance of possible system failures.

Provide cost estimate of repairs and/or modifications of equipment and/or systems; confer with parts suppliers and contractors to ensure most efficient and economical means of repair.

Maintain a preventative maintenance program to minimize down time of environmental chambers.

Train new personnel; provide technical guidance and instruction to other workers in service and repair procedures.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires an educational background normally equivalent to a high school diploma plus two years of technical training in scientific refrigeration systems.

Work requires North Carolina license in refrigeration.

Experience

Work requires three years of experience in refrigeration installation and repair to include at least one year of direct experience with scientific refrigeration systems.
