Occupational Summary

Perform semi-skilled duties in operating equipment and perform a variety of manual tasks in maintaining Duke University grounds, gardens, golf course and forest.

Work Performed

Operate riding type power mowers to mow lawns, golf greens, and athletic fields.

Operate roto tiller, power edgers to shape edges of curbs and highways, and power saw to cut trees. Operate stump routers to remove stumps.

Operate truck for picking up trash, leaves and limbs; participate in loading and unloading truck. Operate lining equipment for marking off playing fields and track.

Perform routine maintenance on equipment as required; determine when equipment is in need of repair and inform appropriate authorities. Perform duties supportive of the work described above.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires the ability to understand and follow instructions generally acquired through a partial high school education.

Experience

None required.

OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

N.C. drivers license and ability to work outdoors required.
