Occupational Summary

Supervise and coordinate paint and wall covering activities to include schedules, resources and outcomes in accordance with University and Duke Health standards and customer specifications.

Work Performed

Plan and schedule work for the group ensuring proper distribution of assignments and adequate staffing, equipment and materials for optimum performance of duties; develop and maintain schedules for planned painting needs.

Review, analyze and distribute incoming work requests to ensure proper balance of workload in the shop; make work assignments and prioritize orders as received and make adjustments as necessary; evaluate work needs to determine if project is to be completed by current staffing or outside vendors.

Estimate paint projects and develop scope of work; present scope of work to approved paint contract companies for bid projects; award projects based on an evaluation of a fair and competitive bid process to ensure project completion within schedule requirements.

Confer with customers to confirm order requirements and specifications; provide estimates as requested; resolve customer issues as required.

Review and process completed work orders; maintain shop logs; review and process daily time cards and review and approve biweekly electronic time cards.

Monitor work for the group providing advice and assistance as needed; adjust and reassign work as necessary to meet customer demands and overall shop efficiency.

Coordinate the training of new personnel; ensure staff is properly trained on procedures and equipment to ensure efficiency and effectiveness.

Make budget recommendations associated with paint activities ensuring adequate staffing and equipment to meet current and future needs.

Recommend various personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, performance reviews, promotions, corrective actions, and scheduling.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

High School degree or equivalent

Experience

Requires five years of related experience. Requires a general knowledge of techniques, practices and methods of the painting trade through direct or related experience in building maintenance and/or construction. Requires leadership skills acquired through lead work or supervisory experience.
