Perform a variety of clerical payroll duties involved in the preparation and processing of the Duke University payrolls.
Perform a variety of clerical payroll duties involved in the preparation and processing of the University payrolls to ensure accuracy of subsequent check writing.
Process time cards to ensure proper completion and authorization; process award distribution notices; distribute department payroll checks subsequent to preparation by data processing and post data to journals; operate Catho-ray Tube to input time worked by University employees as reflected on timecards.
Verify employment notices for accuracy; update and balance deductions register showing voluntary payroll deductions; balance actual payroll deductions taken against deductions register and distribute deduction amounts according to established procedures.
Coordinate corrective action on incomplete or incorrect time cards with departmental payroll personnel.
Process requisitions for payment of personal services.
Assist in the reconciling bank statements with payroll checking accounts.
Assist in the preparation of manual payrolls.
Answer inquiries from federal, state and local agencies and from individuals concerning payroll data.
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level
Work requires knowledge of basic mathematical and clerical principles generally acquired through a high school education.
Work generally requires 2 years of experience in a related position to acquire a general knowledge of the accepted clerical accounting practices involved in verifying, preparing and processing of payrolls; or satisfactory completion of training as a Payroll Clerk Trainee.
